BlockBeats News, January 22nd, Coinbase announced the establishment of a Quantum Computing and Blockchain Independent Advisory Board to address future quantum threats. Coinbase stated that most modern blockchains, including Bitcoin and Ethereum, rely on elliptic curve cryptography. While these systems are currently secure, the emergence of large-scale quantum computers could ultimately weaken or even destroy them. To address this future, interdisciplinary collaboration, rigorous cryptographic research, and proactive planning are needed before quantum computers become mainstream. The board is part of Coinbase's post-quantum security roadmap and will release a position paper on quantum risk in the future, providing defense recommendations for developers and institutions.

The board members include Scott Aaronson, Director of the University of Texas at Austin Quantum Information Center; Dan Boneh, Co-Director of the Stanford University Blockchain Research Center; Justin Drake, Researcher at the Ethereum Foundation; Sreeram Kannan, Founder of EigenLayer; Yehuda Lindell, Head of Cryptography at Coinbase; and Dahlia Malkhi, Distributed Systems Expert at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB).
