Fed's Kashkari: Trump's Threat Is Really a Monetary Policy Issue, No Need for Rate Cut in January

According to The New York Times, Federal Reserve Kashkari stated that the actions taken by the Trump administration against the Federal Reserve over the past year were "actually a monetary policy issue." Previously, the Department of Justice led a criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Powell. Kashkari said in an interview, "The situation that escalated over the past year is actually a monetary policy issue. I think the Chair explained it very accurately." Kashkari stated, this moment is an opportunity to 'explain to our voters and the American people why the Fed's independence is so important to the health and vitality of the U.S. economy.'
Kashkari also said, "I think there is no need to cut interest rates in January," but added that there may be some room for rate cuts later this year, although he said, "it's still early" for that now.
