Wall Streets Big Short: Corporate Bitcoin Treasury Craze Is Replaying SPAC-Style Bubble Risk
Odaily News Wall Street short Jim Chanos has now sounded the alarm about the hot phenomenon of corporate Bitcoin treasuries, comparing it to the frenzy of SPACs (special purpose acquisition companies) in 2021, which raised $90 billion in just three months, only to end in a brutal crash.
But this time, the difference is that the listed company purchased Bitcoin by issuing convertible bonds and preferred stocks without conducting any other substantive business.
“What we’re seeing right now in the bitcoin treasury market is exactly the same thing that we saw with the SPAC craze in 2021,” Chanos said on a podcast this week. “There are pretty big announcements coming out almost every day — ‘hundreds of millions a night.’”
