Cypherpunk
A cypherpunk is an individual who advocates for the widespread use of strong cryptography and privacy-enhancing technologies as tools for social and political change. The term originates from the Cypherpunk movement, which began in the late 1980s and 1990s, where activists believed that cryptography could empower individuals by securing their privacy and limiting government surveillance. Cypherpunks were instrumental in the development of technologies that underpin modern cryptocurrencies, such as encryption protocols. Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, is often associated with the cypherpunk ethos, which champions decentralization, privacy, and resistance to censorship. The movement’s influence continues to shape the development of blockchain and cryptocurrency technologies today.
