BlockBeats News, December 27th, the Bank of China completed the first cross-border digital currency QR code payment transaction with Laos. Under the joint guidance of the People's Bank of China and the Bank of Laos, the Bank of China participated in the cross-border pilot project of digital payment and central bank digital currency cooperation between the two countries. At the same time, Bank of China's Vientiane Branch was among the first to access the People's Bank of China's cross-border digital RMB payment platform.

By providing real-time exchange rate quotations and efficient clearing services, Bank of China completed the on-site verification of QR code payments for merchants in Laos. This service will significantly reduce the threshold for cross-border settlement between China and Laos. Chinese tourists can make payments in their home currency directly by scanning the merchant's QR code using the digital RMB app, based on the real-time exchange rate, without the need to exchange foreign currency. Local Laotian merchants do not need to modify their payment devices; they can receive funds in compliance automatically using their existing methods.
